Province Celebrates Patronal Feast Day
In California, our province is blessed to not only be a province within the Order of St. Augustine, but also to be especially dedicated to St. Augustine. The official name of our province is "The Province of St. Augustine in California" and so the end of August is always a time for great celebration and joy as the Feast of St. Monica and the Solemnity of St. Augustine is honored.
The official celebration of the province was held on the evening of Sunday, August 26th, with a special evening prayer service in the St. Augustine Monastery Chapel in San Diego, California. Very Rev. Kevin Mullins, OSA, led the ceremony, which honored those living and deceased who have labored tirelessly for many years on behalf of the province. Afterwards a dinner which was organized by Br. Robert Baiocco, OSA, was held on the Vasey Patio of St. Augustine High School and many friends and guests of the province attended.
Around the province: St. Patrick's parish celebrated St. Augustine's Day at each of the Sunday Masses last weekend, Fr. Mark Menegatti, OSA celebrated a St. Augustine's Day school Mass at Villanova Prep school and shared the importance of St. Augustine's search for truth and how faith and reason go hand in hand, the OMGC community of friars and lay affiliates and seculars in Los Angeles went out for a celebratory dinner, and a St. Augustine's Day Mass was held at St. Augustine High School in San Diego.
